Basics

Who takes care of the berlinparade?

The berlinparade is organized by a couple of folks, who want to increase skaters rights. In addition it's supported by some folks, who have accepted single tasks or help sometimes.
The berlinparade is neighter a company nor an association. Commercial claims are not in skope.

Who is responsible for the berlinparade?

1.) The berlinparade is a political demonstration. Everyone participates with his personal responsibility and at one's own risk.
2.) The folks, who care about the berlinparade are mentioned in the impressum. In addition every single berlinparade is leaded both by an organizer and a chairman. Decisions about a berlinparade are made from these two persons. The decisions are related to the start, run, demonstration stop, termination of the berlinparade and when necessary whether it must early comes to nothing

Can I join you helping with the berlinparade?

Yes, sure, your're welcome! Please join us just a little bit earlier as scheduled. Then you will meet the folks from the berlinparade team.
We always like to welcome skaters who wants to do little thinks, like hand out some flyers, help to keep skaters on track or even help preparing the berlinparade.

Skate-Night?

The Skate-Night-Berlin is different. Please look at Miscellanous

Participation - who may attend?

Who may join us?

Everyone who provides some of our claims, respects our rules and is able to skate and brake safe.

Quads?
4 / 5 wheels?
...

It doesn't matter. All Skaters are welcome w/o breaks, breaks in front or rear, 4 or 5 wheels, quad or inline, even skate- or kickboarder are okay.

Need I provide all of your claims?

No, you must agree with just some of the claims.

Need I to bring a banner?

No, not everyone. But it would be nice, if you would do so. You can also give your opinion on a T-Shirt, make a flag or sth like this...
It would be nice, if you help others to carry the banner.
It's important to let the people who look at us get the impression of a demonstration, a public given opinon, rather than the impression of just a group of skaters.

Need I carry banners?

No, you need not. It would be nice, if you help others to carry one or help them finding someone to come off the banner. It's much easier to rotate carrying the banner while skating.

Need I disseminate flyers?

The dissemination of our political claims is the main focus of the demonstration. Of course you don't need. But it would help, if you support us. It's already helpful to keep right to let the folks who hand out some flyers skate back to the head of the demonstration.

When is a beginner fit enough?

Good question. One of the hops is about 10 km long and lasts at about 50 minutes. After the demonstration stop (pause) we skate a line back which is nearly as long as the first part
The best methode is testing. Study next skate and a city map (online),maybe bring a subway map, a pair of shoes in your backback and join us skating. If you cannot keep the pace at the end, cut short or cancel the skate.
A second trick is to begin at the head of the group or to plan a pick-up-service with a friend.

Need I wear protectors for head and joints?

In principle yes. It should be as a matter of course. Think about the amount of people you skate with, all of them with different skating skills! There is a higher risk of accident compared to biking for example.
We don't check. We don't refuse anyone whithout protectors. But we strongly advice you protecting yourself to prevent or reduce injuries in case of accident.

When?

How often the berlinparade take place?

Unregularly. Every 2 to 4 weeks. It depends on administrations allowance ...Please use our website.
We have a break in winter and maybe more time between two skates in spring and fall.

When does the berlinparade take place?

Mostly beweekly friday evening, 8 pm exact, seldom sunday, 3 pm exact.
We may schedule irregular dates for special events.

Why so late?

Why so early?

We generally start at 8pm exact.
That's a time, when our demonstration can be recognized by pedestrians, which are still beside the streets. On the other hand the rush hour has gone.

When is the next skate?

Please check the skate Furthermore you can subscribe to our (german) newsletter, in which we publish the date.

How can I find out the next dates?

On our webpage you find our next skate skate. In our newsletter, we publish the planed and scheduled dates as early as possible.
More in section Info and newsletter

Why not a schedule for the complete year?

The members of the berlinparade-team, who plan the skate, can not fix for the whole year because of their open private and job schedule. That means, we can only schedule the next 3 to 4 skates in advance.

Can I find out the next skate without internet connection?

Not directly. You have to ask your collegues, friends, kids or parents.

Where?

Do we start every time from the same location?

No, but mostly. Please check the website.

Every time the same skate?

No. We try to check out a new line each berlinparade. So we want to widly spread our opinion but on the other hand not want to annoy each time the same people.

How long is the skate?

Different, between 20 to 30 km. The skate is published on the website.
The skate is regularly devided into two parts with a demonstating pause.

May I shorten?

Yes, the berlinparade is ist no competition.
But if you want to shorten the skate and leave the demo you have to use the sidewalk at walking speed.
Please check to bring a pair of shous if you want to shorten with subway or bus. The public transportation system doesn't accept skaters.

How difficult is the skate? Always the same?

Different. The skates vary each time as well as the degree of difficulty
Inclines and Declines can occur as well as rails and short (!) lines of cobblestone.
You may have noticed that Berlin lay in a flat area, inclines and declines are seldom.

Why not to Spandau?

We like to start from a central point in Berlin. The borrows Spandau, Zehlendorf and some ohters are to far away from the city

Speed

What is the skates speed?

Its difficult to mesure. We try choosing an easy speed in co-operation with the police to minimize traffic obstruction and dimension. You may imagine that the dimension of the skate grows rapidly by an increasing velocity. The speed also depends on weather and street condition.
The speed varies between 13-15 to17-19 km/.

Why so fast?

We want to demonstrate skating is a fast kind of locomotion. So we want to skate "speedy" in a way that all folks, who are able to skate can follow. Beginners are adviced to train on save places before joining the berlinparade.
Beginners who don't stay with the pace - or or can stand the pace only with grate effort - are advice to leave the demo or to shorten it using the subway.

Why so slowly?

The berlinparade is a demonstration and no competition.! We want to conjointly demonstrate not to struggle each other. For this reason we have to keep in mind the skaters on a beginner level.

Fit for the skate?

You have to decide for your own and test your condition. See attending.

Rain and wetness

Why not when it rains?

1.) Skating is much more difficult when it rains or when the street is wet or greasy. Especially braking. The accident risk increase rapidly.
2.) The risk to catch a cold increases to folks who missed to bring fitting wear or who have a long way home.
3.) A decreasing amount of pedestrians will recognize and think about our demonstration when it rains.
Additionally its a material stress (especially for the bearing) and much people don't enjoy skating when it rains.
Overall its seems not to make much sense to start a skate demonstration and we want the participants to healthy come back home.

When and where do you decide whether it rains?

A short time before the scheduled time and on the starting place. This is the mean reason we offer no phone or web service of the "go or no" decision.

Who decides?

The organizer and the chairman in co-operation with the disposers.
We try to make a considerate decision. Please keep in mind, the folks who spent much time and power to plan the skate will not aery dismiss the event.
